6th Annual Tea

The Sixth Annual Tea at the Creek was held by The Tea Ladies of the St James Goose Creek Parish Area on Saturday, March 8th.  This is an annual event and was again a great success.  The beautifully decorated tables and delicious food made by the Tea Ladies was attended by about 160 ladies dressed for the occasion.  All door prizes, raffles, and silent auction items are donated by generous neighborhood businesses and the Tea Ladies.

The Tea began with the Presentation of the Colors by the Stratford High School Junior ROTC.  The cadets were also busy selling and collecting tickets, handing out door prizes, serving, and cleaning up after the event.

The ladies were entertained early in the program by Miss Ellie Sineath performing a dance which she choreographed herself.  The guest speaker this year was Deborah Hayes, a master gardener, who appeared regularly on SCETV for 15 years on “Making it Grow!” and “From the Ground Up”.  She received an Emmy for Television Excellence – Interactivity for providing on-air and chat room gardening information.  Deborah’s topic was “Camellias, the Original Tea Plant”.

Awards were presented to three organizations which promote and advance the history, culture, and beautification of our area, which is the mission of the Tea Ladies.  Jeff Welling received an award for Habitat for Humanity.  Dr. William H. Prioleau, Sr. accepted a check for the historic St. James Goose Creek Church.  Mayor Michael Heitzler accepted two awards.  One award will help in the restoration efforts of the St. James Goose Creek Chapel of Ease Committee.  The other was a contribution to help fund a historical marker for the “18 Mile” site in Goose Creek.

Donors included Barbara Morris of Shear Reflections, Becky DeSanto and Liz Knudsen of the Special Effects Salon, Berkeley Electric Coop, Betsy Crump, Cypress Gardens, Dreamalot Books, Drew Sineath, Flowertowne Players, Ft Sumter Tour and Spirit Line Cruises, Hopsewee Plantation Tea Room, Jerry Tekac, La Hacienda, Metro North Church, MFS Commercial Real Estate, Michael Heitzler, Music Man BBQ, Pit Stop, Quoizel Lighting, Ross Printing, Santee Cooper, St. James Place Grill, Stono Market, Texas Roadhouse, This Whole House, and Time Well Spent, and Tony Young.

The Metro North Church donated the use of their church for this event, and Tony Young was the photographer.

December, 2013 Meeting
Our annual Christmas party was held on Wednesday, December 4 at 6:30 at Claudette's house.  We had our usual delicious food and fun with our ornament gift exchange.  Unfortunately "Tessa", the dancing flamingo ornament, did not return for the party.  Hopefully, she will make an appearance at next year's event.  It was wonderful to get together for friendship and fun.
